“He said, “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”– Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit
Being real doesn’t come from someone else defining you or your life. It comes from experience, knowledge and hard work within. It comes from pain, love, time, sadness and happiness. It’s drawn from your core that sometimes isn’t discovered until your hair is loved off and you become shabby. Hopefully though, if you are lucky, you will become real at the perfect moment in your life. No one needs to understand how it happened, just that it did. Those people that don’t understand, will never get it and may think you’re ugly. That’s because they are probably the most fake individuals around. Someone that can’t understand, is a person that is close minded to seeing another view or accepting another opinion. These people need not matter. Your realness will be shown to you and others that love you. You will know how real you can become, because once you reach that state, you will also realize how unreal you actually were.
