My Highway – Jason Aldean - LIVE LIFE LOVE LIFE

My Highway – Jason Aldean

“On my highway I go too fast
Afraid that I might finish last
I hugged the curve too hard and lost control
Oh you never know which way it’s gonna go”

This song is awesome! At a point in my life when I really needed to hear this, a friend played it for me. I shed a few tears and set it on repeat for weeks. Our highway is our own to create and learn from.

“But what a feeling, chasing the sun
Living my life like a shot from a gun
Laughing a little bit more with every mile
Oh what a freedom racing the wind
Dying to know what’s around the next bend
Smiling as I watch the years roll by
I’m learning how to take it day by day on my highway”

I took this verse as pushing the limits…wanting to go forward so bad, fearing that I would fall short and not get there soon enough. Pushing the limits and losing control of my car was a feeling I became comfortable with at the time. I had no clue what was around the next bend and although that was scary, it was exhilarating at the same time

“Not looking back, not forgetting where I’ve been
Smiling as I watch the years roll by
And I’m moving on from my mistakes,
And I’m learning how to take it day by day…
On my highway”

I embraced the chase and let each moment flow as it’s meant to, maybe not caring so much about the outcome; that was something I had to learn. Laughing at my journey and hoping for better things to come. Feeling freedom in the unknown became my push to keep taking steps forward. Teaching myself how to live in the moment and take it day by day…living now, hoping for later.

Never forget where you’ve been, but don’t look back. The ‘back’ shapes you and then you move on.
